“Someone Else’s Fairytale”, by E. M. Tippets is a fun romantic tale with a bit of suspense thrown in for good measure. Chloe Winter’s is a hard-working student pursuing a post-graduate degree in forensic science in Albuquerque. Her friend talks her into being an extra for a movie shoot where she meets Jason Vanderholt, one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. Jason is quite taken with Chloe but she doesn’t have time in her life for romance, let alone the Hollywood nonsense. He persists with friendship and romance follows.
This was a great read because the characters were so well-developed. Chloe seems like ‘every girl’, with normal responsibilities and expectations. Jason is obviously not normal, but Tippetts does a great job revealing the private side of this Hollywood superstar. The supporting cast – Jason’s family, Chloe’s school friends – are all fleshed out as well. Chloe’s mom, a needy woman who had a decades long affair with a married man, Chloe’s father, is very believable.
The side plots also make the story more than just boy meets girl. There is the mystery of who shot Chloe and why it happened and the rehabilitation of Jason’s snarky niece.
If you are in the mood for a fun romantic read with a little bit extra you can’t go wrong with this one.
