“When the Right One Comes Along” is the first novel in Kate James’ new K-9 trilogy. Cal Palmer, a K-9 search and rescue officer, and his dog Scout are working the scene of a high rise rescue after a devastating earthquake in San Diego. As a result of aftershocks he is significantly injured. Jessica Hensen is a trauma surgeon at the site of the worst damage. When they meet they both feel something special.
Jessica is dealing with the loss of a young patient when she was previously a pediatric surgeon. Cal is still hurting from his ex-wife’s hasty departure and losing visitation/custody of his young daughter. They will need to get past their own stumbling blocks to find happiness.
I really enjoyed this story. Loved Scout!! Cal and Jessica were both well developed and had multiple layers to them. I enjoyed the setting since I call San Diego home. This would be a great book to curl up with on a fall weekend!
